Regarding Nuclear War in Ukraine - To All Friends of Willis Carto - July 14th, 2023
An Important Message about the Ukraine War from Elisabeth Carto

July 4th, 2023
The Choice of sending a different, friendly letter to friends or a realistic accounting of the present political situation was difficult.
Should I start with the Russian/Ukraine problem or a friendly, funny little item copied from a publication that Willis published over the years?
I decided to attach two funny little items for the Fourth of July first.
Item number one, Let’s Hear it for America from the Summer 1976 American Mercury magazine, published by Willis. It is a charming little story of Americans celebrating the Fourth with musicians. Frank Neal had faith in the future of America and a belief in happiness for all mankind.
The second item from the same American Mercury issue is entitled Inflation in America, 300 years ago. The occasion was the Tricentennial celebration at which time Liberty Lobby had gathered 200 people in Alexandria, Virginia for a great meeting over the weekend at a hotel. We watched fireworks and heard many speakers who addressed our gathering. I remember that I had to drive Dr. Martin Larson later to friends in DC who had invited him to stay with them. Today I would hesitate to go into DC, night or day.
Many of you had met Martin no doubt. He was one of the speakers, the expert on the Federal Reserve. The early settlers were mostly poor, to settle bills they used commodities The Indians, who called polished shells ‘wampum’ for trading, were copied by the settlers who then used wampum as well. Different states came up with their own wampum. One story appeared later that Harvard College accepted anything handy. One paid them with an “old cow”. Another had paid with a goat but it had died according to a Harvard record keeper.
UKRAINE
The Ukraine war is a dividing part of today’s political climate. Our “Free Press” is not believable, as usual. The anticipation is that we will go into worse debt than can be imagined. When Biden follows his masters' warmongering, the hate Putin crowd, disaster will be endless. There is money to be made in wars, Eisenhower warned us.
Please read the following carefully:
Jack F. Matlock was US Ambassador to the USSR from 1987 to 1991. As a board member of ACURA (American Committee for US-RUSSIA ACCORD), he wrote the following, slightly abridged, article for ACURA. Singer Island, Florida, 02/14/2022:
“Today we face a preventable crisis between the United States and Russia that was predictable, and deliberate, but easily resolved with common sense. But how did we get to this point?
As someone who took part in the negotiations to end the Cold War, allow me to bring a little history to the current Ukraine crisis.
Every day we learn that war in Ukraine could be imminent. Russian troops, we are told, are massing on Ukraine's borders and could attack at any time. American citizens are being advised to leave Ukraine, and American embassy staff members are being evacuated. Meanwhile, Ukraine's president has warned against panic and made it clear that he doesn't think a Russian invasion is imminent. Vladimir Putin has denied that he intends to invade Ukraine. He demands that the process of admitting new members into NATO be halted and that Russia be given assurances that Ukraine and Georgia will never become members.
President Biden has declined to make any such assurance but has indicated his willingness to further discuss issues of strategic stability in Europe. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has made it clear that it has no intention of implementing the 2015 agreement on the reunification of the Donbas provinces with Ukraine with a high degree of local autonomy - an agreement with Russia, France, and Germany that was supported by the United States.
Was this Ukraine crisis avoidable?
In short, yes. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, many observers mistakenly believed they were witnessing the end of the Cold War, when in fact it had ended through negotiations at least two years earlier and was in the interests of all parties. President George H.W. Bush hoped that Gorbachev would be able to keep most of the 12 non-Baltic republics in a voluntary federation.
Contrary to the prevailing view of both the Washington foreign policy establishment and most of the Russian public, the United States did not assist, much less cause, the collapse of the Soviet Union. We supported the independence of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and one of the last acts of the Soviet parliament was to legalize their claim to independence. And despite frequently voiced fears, Vladimir Putin has never threatened to retake the Baltic countries or claim any of their territories, though he has criticized some countries for denying ethnic Russians full citizenship rights - a principle the European Union is committed to enforcing.
Since Putin's main demand is to get assurances that NATO will not accept any more members, particularly Ukraine or Georgia, there would obviously have been no basis for the current crisis if there had been no expansion of NATO after the end of the Cold War Alliance, or if enlargement had been consistent with the building of a security structure in Europe that would include Russia.”

So, there it is, how could we have been so careless, the world is in upheaval. Europe believes that they will be nuked. Russia expects the same. Our controlled press does not tell the truth about this “war”. We have now the spectacle of a group of 5000 paid privately operating Russian Security Guards, the Wagner group to fight. The company is owned by Oligarch Pregoshin.
The commander of the Group is Dimitri Utkin. A total of 25,000 military men but only 5000 were following Pregoshin on the way to Moscow.. Most of them are located in Africa, protecting Russian interests, they say. Pregoshin, who set all this in motion, did not return to Moscow. Putin gave him the choice of coming and explaining himself or settling in Belarus, unmolested by Moscow. Those fighters returning to Moscow had to join the Russian Army which had just voted that day to make them legal.
Comments from the European press:
In the late hours of June 23, a video emerged from the head of the Russian Wagner Group private paramilitary organization, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announcing that his forces would march on Moscow to "punish" the leadership, and in particular the Russian Defense Ministry, and "restore justice.” He alleged that Russian forces had launched a missile strike against Wagner assets, which followed a long history of complaints of insufficient arms supplies.
"There are 25,000 of us and we are going to figure out why this chaos is happening in the country," said Prigozhin, adding that this figure "is a tactical reserve, but the strategic reserve is our whole army and the whole country. Everyone who wants, join us.”
The Wagner Group has played a central role in Russian military operations against Ukraine, including spearheading the months-long battle to capture the city of Bathmat. While forces in Ukraine have largely recruited from Russia’s prison population, the organization also has a widespread presence providing security-related services to partners across the world from Venezuela and Mali to Syria and the Central African Republic where forces are primarily comprised of former servicemen.
Ultimately the turmoil surrounding Prigozhin’s march on Moscow lasted little over 24 hours, with Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko intervening to mediate and offer the Wagner leadership an opportunity to stand down peacefully.
Upon accepting this offer it was confirmed that Prigozhin would go to Belarus presumed to retire. Under this arrangement, Prigozhin and Wagner fighters would not be prosecuted. Belarus had long offered its services as a mediator between Moscow and its adversaries, including for years with Ukraine. The brevity of the coup attempt has fueled widespread speculation as to whether it may have been a staged effort, possibly to test loyalties within the government in Russia and root out those who failed to stand with Vladimir Putin’s administration - including in the Defense Ministry which was responsible for securing Moscow. Should this have been successful, the coup attempt may in fact consolidate the administration’s power rather than undermining it.
In contrast to reports of a staged operation, unconfirmed reports from Russian-aligned sources indicated that British intelligence played a role in turning Wagner’s leadership against Moscow, possibly with reassurances and cherry-picked intelligence indicating that they would receive support from within the military, while other reports claimed American intelligence had supplemented these reassurances with an offer of funds - specifically $6.2 billion. These reports were all unconfirmed but served to further increase speculation regarding the nature of the apparent coup attempt.
Wagner troops have played a crucial role in the Ukraine war, capturing the eastern city of Bakhmut, but Prigozhin has increasingly criticized the military top brass, accusing it of incompetence and depriving his troops of ammunition. The brief revolt ended after Prigozhin reached a deal with the Kremlin that will see him move to Belarus, which has supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
**************************
Despite Putin accusing his one-time ally of treason and mutiny, charges against him of mounting an armed rebellion were dropped. Prigozhin is an Oligarch and a Nationalist. Moscow also said it would not prosecute Wagner fighters who took part in the insurrection.
In allowing Prigozhin and his forces to go free, the Kremlin said Putin's "highest goal" was "to avoid bloodshed"
A final word of the mercenaries in Russia, Wagner is only one of them, they are strong Russian nationalists Some display German WW2 flags. The head of Belarus (White Russia) has two German WW2 fighter emblems of German elite troops tattooed on his neck. The problem is that many groups have been spied upon and misled by the Ukrainians, in fact, many are Ukrainians, and they hate Zelinsky.
There is much more to read through the Veritas account, it is mostly in German and needs to be translated. They are doing a tremendous job and need to be supported, they are our friends.

Lavrov: Plans to Deliver F-16 Fighters to Kiev Sets Dangerous Development of Events
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The United States and its NATO allies are creating risks of direct confrontation with Russia, and this could lead to catastrophic consequences, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said, adding that Moscow will consider delivery of nuclear-capable F-16s to Kiev as a threat from the West.
The minister said that there would be no reason to talk about the use of nuclear weapons by Russia if the West does not make decisions that create strategic risks. Lavrov also recalled that the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons are clearly defined in Russia’s military doctrine.
